DC Festival Review Baby VOX At The Airport Baby VOX's plane from Korea came into Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C at 11:30am on Thursday, June 26th, 2003. I had arrived at 11:25am, to not much of a crowd. There was a wide arrange of ages there. From older men and women who wanted to watch the older gasoos arrive, to young girls who were mainly there to see Shinhwa and Fly to the Sky arrive. There were body guards all around. Tall, buff Korean men, in black suits, earpieces and all. They stood at attention at all times. We waited and waited. At around 12:30pm or so, the gasoos started showing up. A few came off that I didn't know. Then Shinhwa came. And the crowd went wild. Girls practically throwing themselves at them. They would have, had it not been for barracades. The after a little longer, Baby VOX came out!! They looked so beautiful and perfect, even in street clothes right off a plane. They smiled and waved and came near the fans. Eunjin reach out and touched some of us. She has such smooth skin. They couldn't stop to talk or sign anything, as the guards didn't allow it. So I ran after them outside. They had already boarded thier bus, but you could see inside a little, through the tinting. Eunjin and Heejin were on the side I was. I moved to where they could see me and I stood there with one of the posters I had brought. The 'Show Me Lovable Girls' poster. Eunjin and Heejin saw me and waved. And I did the 'V' sign to Heejin and wiggled it around and Heejin did the same right back! And while I was standing with the poster, I made the 'V' sign again and Eunjin saw and even took a picture of me! BoA came out to the busses next. Except she was very rude and hid behind her guards and totally blocked her face from anyone taking photos and didn't smile or wave or acknowledge her fans in any way. After some other people filled the busses, they left. So me and my friends left as well. We were going to go get some lunch, but we got lost. On the way back, lo and behold, we ran into Baby VOX's bus at a restaurant! They and the other gasoos were filing out of the restaurant and back onto the busses. So we pulled into an adjacent parking lot and just watched them mill around, and then they left again. We pulled out into traffic to follow them, but their bus got free of traffic and we lost them. Baby VOX's Rehearsal Rehearsal for the DC Peace Festival was on Friday, June 27th, 2003 at 6:00pm. Me and my friends arrived at RFK Stadium at around 5:15pm, so we could get good seats for the rehearsal. We lined up and Grace Oh, from Revolution and part of the production staff checked us in. This was the point where the mailed reservation tickets were turned in for the real seating tickets. But there was something wrong, and Grace didn't have a ticket to give me. She let me in, with promises that she would do something about it tonight, or to go to the Will Call office tomorrow to get my ticket. I got to go in first, before my friends. Fans were not allowed on the field for rehearsal, so everyone had to go to the stands. I had a good view of the stage from the stands. BoA was the first performer I saw go on. She did a good rehearsal, but again, ignored her fans. Then there were other rehearsals. I didn't always pay attention. Mainly because Baby VOX kept coming onto the field to watch. Eunhye and Heejin came out to sit on the field and watch. And Miyoun was in the upper parts of the stands, watching from above. She waved and smiled and blew kisses and everything. She was very pleased to see her fans. Then all the performers and little children came on to practice. Then after a little bit, it was Baby VOX's turn to practice! They did 'What Can I Do' and 'Devotion'. They just had normal street clothes on. They did very well in rehearsal and sang live. Too bad they only got to do two songs. After they were done, my friends and I pretty much left. On the way out, we saw Grace and I asked her about my ticket situation. And then we told her who were were (Baby VOX fans), how most of us travelled so far and her who I was. We asked if there was anyway we could meet Baby VOX that night. She said she would try. So she took a group picture of us all, took the presets myself and one other fan, Liu, had brought and went backstage. She came back after a while and said it wasn't possible. But she gave them our gifts. She then gave me her card, so I could contact her later about my ticket. So we left that night a little dishearted. After we got back to the hotel, the rehearsal was over, so I called Grace. She just told me to go to the Will Call office for my ticket, but that she had some good news. She had gotten me and my friends backstage passes! Not full ones, but we were going to be allowed to go backstage and meet Baby VOX! She said it would be either before, during intermission or possibly after the concert. She would let us know that day. So we went to bed very happy, dreaming of meeting Baby VOX! The Festival The Festival for the Peace Concert was on June 28th, starting at 1:00pm. I arrived at around 4:30pm. I saw Grace as I was going in, and she confirmed that I needed to get my ticket at the Will Call office. Then she took down my friend's cell phone number, and she was going to call when it was time to see Baby VOX. I got to the Will Call box and picked up my ticket. And it was first row! I was supposed to be in A2, row 4, but I think because of the whole mess up with my ticket, I got to go to the first row. So I was A2, row one, seat 37. Perfect view of the stage. I couldn't have gotten more lucky. Then we just checked out the festival, which was rather small and not very exciting at all. I took my seat for the concert around 6pm, and just talked to other fans and walked around until the show started. The Concert! The DC Peace Concert was on June 28th, 2003 at 7pm. It started pretty much on time. They had a nice preshow, which Grace hosted. Little children came up and sang the Korean National Anthem and then the American National Anthem. Then Baby VOX and the other performers came up and sang a song. Then some formal people came up and made some speeches. Then, time for the show! Seven kicked the concert off. His performance was very lively. Everyone screaming and cheering, you couldn't help but sing along. Baby VOX was next! They sang 'What Can I Do' and 'Devotion'. And it was live. They wore the white shirts that had the silver sparkles on it. Eunhye had her hair in the afro. Everyone looked just so polished and perfect. Their dances were flawless and they looked like they were having a good time. They could have smiled a little more, but they got the crowd going. Since I had the front row seats, I got some very good pictures and Baby VOX waved at me. It was an overall spectacular performance by Baby VOX! Fly to the Sky was next, then NRG. Both performances were fun and exciting. There were some opera singers that came out next. While it was a slow period of the concert, the opera singers voices were beautiful. There were other various artists that performed, including Patty Kim. Then there was a 10 minute intermission, at which point Grace hadn't called, so we were getting worried if we would see Baby VOX or not. But then the concert started up again. More artists that I wasn't too familiar with. Then Woondo Sul came on. He was singing and dancing and then he came into the crowd and sang. Then he walked down to where I was and started dancing with me! I couldn't believe it! I got to be on the big projection screen and everything, dancing away with Woondo Sul! It was quite amazing! After a while, I saw Grace coming towards me. It was time to go meet Baby VOX! To read about that, click here. After meeting Baby VOX, I went back to my seat, in time for BoA. As much as I dislike BoA, she put on a fine show. I couldn't help but enjoy it. And she actually smiled at people. I was happy I got to see her perform. Then Shinhwa happened. I've never seen girls in such a frenzy. I was even screaming for them. They all were very good looking and great dancers and singers. One of the best performers of the night. After they were done, my friends and I decided to leave. I was so excited from meeting Baby VOX that I couldn't stop smiling and recounting everything that happened. The DC Peace Concert was well worth my money and time to get there. It was a once in a life time opportunity to see so many famous artists in one place and I'm glad I got to be a part of it.
