LA Festival Review

The Lunar New Years Festival took place on Sunday, February 9th, 2003 in Los Angeles, Hollywood, California, USA. The festival opened at 11am. It consisted of approximately a 3-4 street radius and was filled to the brim with booths and carnival rides and people! There was a cute little petting zoo for the children and all the carnival rides were for children as well. The main stage was right in the middle of the action and had performers ranging from authentic Thai dancers to asian pop stars. The booths themselves weren't overly well done. The food booths were cheap and delicious though. The merchandise sold at other booths was typical for an asian festival. There were quite a few gambling booths with lines that traced the whole festival. Overall, I didn't care too much for the festival.

The parade started at 1pm and traveled about a 4 plus block stretch. The parade was very, very well done. It had a large variety of participants. Everyone from Gary V. to local television people were in the parade. It opened with Chinese dragons running around and firecrackers being set off. Marching bands played great music and the floats were spectacular and very well done. The parade lasted for about an hour and a half, maybe less, as I left to go meet with Baby VOX.

To read what happened when I met Baby VOX, click here. The performance by Baby VOX was the highlight of the festival for many. The Emcee's came on stage and intorduced them, while the crowd was chating Baby VOX's name. Screams filled the air when Baby VOX took the stage. They started out with Killer, then Naeh Sarang Igruil, then Why. They paused to talk a little bit to the crowd then launched into Missing You and finished up with Oo Yon. They sang semi-live which meant some parts were lipped and they sang live to some parts of the songs. Mainly the two slow songs and Why they sang live. At least, that's what I heard. They did very, very good when singing live. Their dance moves were all precise and they smiled the whole time and looked like they were having a very good time. After they finished up with Oo Yon, they left the stage. People crowded to the autograph booths. After a few more minutes, Baby VOX came back out and announced that they didn't have time for autographs, as they had a very tight schedule. And that they hoped we liked having them in LA and they enjoyed it and that they hope they can come back soon. Then they rushed into thier limo and they were gone! I think everyone who saw thier performance was very, very pleased and I know we all hope Baby VOX comes back to the states soon!
